I'm contemplating adding a forum/bulletin board to Hooray Takei! and would like to find out if there's any interest in that before I start work.  (Hoping this posts correctly; I haven't tried posting a poll to a community before.)

Poll #807594 Bulletin board

Would you be interested in a Takei/Sulu focused forum?

If certain conditions are met (specify in comment)
I'm not sure

Hi everyone! I am a semi-finalist in an online Pilot-Pitching contest, hosted by the New York Television Festival!
My idea is a Star Trek sitcom called “Leave it to Sulu”, which will take place in the Star Trek universe, but have sitcom themes and conventions. It’ll be like Cheers, 300 years in the future!  If I win the contest, I hope to have George Takei reprise his role of Hikaru Sulu.
Read my pitch below, or go watch the video of me attempting to pitch in 1 minute at the website, and if you like what you read/see, vote for me!
The link to the contest is: http://tv.msn.com/nytvf/contest/pitch
I am listed under “Duncan: Leave it to Sulu”.
Actually watching my pitch is not necessary to vote, but it would be nice if you watched them all.
In order to see the video, you should be running Internet Explorer, and using a PC- macs do not work, unless you’re running something called “boot camp”.
Voting runs today (Wednesday the 23rd) through Friday the 25th)
12 a.m. - 12 a.m. PST (3 a.m. - 3 a.m. EST). Please vote as soon as possible!
The finalists will pitch to a celebrity panel of executives at the 2006 NYTF, and then the winner will get an $8,000 network TV pilot production deal. This is very exciting, so please vote!
Leave it to Sulu – Going Where No Show Has Gone Before.

This idea is not, as yet, affiliated with Star Trek, George Takei, or any of the Roddenberries. Just an idea whose time has come.

X-posted everywhere- if you know anyone who might be interested, please pass on the info.

Feast of Fools' "Proud to be Takei". There's a special bonus in there for people who speak Spanish. It is, as Dick Grayson says, "rave-y".

I just got an email suggesting that I add a fan submissions section to Hooray Takei! and thought "I wonder if there are fans who would like to submit things?" So I decided to ask.

These are the kinds of things I'd be interested in:

-Stories about interactions with George, such as meeting him at cons etc.
-People's experiences of, reviews of, or just thoughts about George's non-Trek work
-Fanart of Sulu
-Sulu- or George-related graphics, such as icons and wallpapers
-Fanfiction in which Sulu plays a significant role (not necessarily the lead, but significant)
-Sulu-centric fan creations that don't fit any of the above categories

(Nothing too sexual/violent/containing too many swearwords, please, the other site owner's six years old.)

Does anyone feel like creating something/sharing something they previously created that fits any of those categories? I would give credit to anyone who contributed in as much or as little detail as they wished.

(About to be crossposted to a couple of places. Sorry.)

So technically where I am it's not quite the 20th, but most places it is, so please join me in wishing George a very happy 69th birthday. He's on the road; let's hope he isn't too busy to have fun!

Incidentally, the HRC has pictures from and updates about the "Equality Trek" speaking tour, as well as some interviews and a video of him talking about their work, all here. I was tipped off about it today and it's great.

World Enough And Time is set to film in September, apparently. Also, George likes the script. This is probably a good thing.

Equality Trek.

Six places in April --- shame I'm nowhere near any of them.

At the behest of my little brother I made a fansite for George and Sulu, which is now available here. It has a rather thorough gallery, a page for Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe and some info pages. Please check it out and tell me what you think/if you notice mistakes or have suggestions.

Will probably crosspost somewhere very soon, but haven't decided where yet....

I said a while ago I'd make a post about George's book Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe. This is it.

Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe is a book about a ninja who fights robots in space.

Detailed spoilers back here.Collapse )

I really enjoyed this book. It has its faults; the editing in my copy is terrible (there is one case of pluralising with an apostrophe, and a comma that renders the sentence it is in total gibberish) and Hosato is something of a Gary-Stu, between his fencing prowess and super spy skills. (His name is even George's middle name.) Nevertheless, it's interesting, somewhat educational, and well-written. The characters are appealing, the plot is well-handled, and the ninja part is presented well. Plus, when all's said and done, it's about space ninja fighting robots. I recommend reading it.
